With every criminal offence there is a victim. The criminal justice process has a range of sanctions which can include a caution, a fine and a custodial sentence. Often this process and the sanctions imposed can leave the victim feeling frustrated through a lack of involvement or because they have not been able to have their say. Restorative Justice can help deal with the aftermath of the offence by providing engagement with the perpetrator and in so doing to provide some satisfaction to the victim.
Our Victim / Offender Mediation Service can be used in the Restorative Justice process. The Service is usually referred and co-ordinated by the Youth Offending Service or by the police and can be used where the person who has suffered the harm is willing to meet the person responsible.
